Editorial context
Working with a provider in San Francisco – what matters
When seeking energy advice focused on solar panels and battery storage in San Francisco, first establish the scope of the service. Selecting a solar system is not the same as assessing the energy performance of an entire building. Sunrun’s supplied materials primarily document a provider-specific offering covering solar equipment, storage, installation and contract options. Customers should ask whether the assessment also considers other ways to reduce energy consumption.
System sizing should account for previous electricity consumption, usage patterns and possible changes in demand. Ask which assumptions underpin projected generation and costs. Savings described in individual customer reviews cannot simply be transferred to another property. Roof suitability and condition should also be clarified before installation.
For batteries, distinguish backup power from energy management without backup capability. Sunrun lists both types. A proposal should therefore specify whether electricity will be available during an outage and what the backup system can support.
When comparing ownership with a subscription, consider total payments as well as upfront costs, equipment ownership, maintenance responsibilities and warranty terms. The sources list different coverage periods for equipment, workmanship and roof penetrations; these should be reviewed separately. Clear procedures for reporting faults, documenting potential roof damage and arranging repairs are also useful. Contract details and arrangements for transferring the system when selling the home should be confirmed in writing before making a decision.

Selected reviews on Google
The supplied Google data lists a rating of 4.1 out of 5 from 675 reviews. In the selected reviews, recurring positive themes include clear explanations, regular communication and help with paperwork. Several reviewers also report lower electricity bills and operation with few or no problems. Critical accounts concern different issues: one review describes recurring meter problems that reduced system performance. Another alleges that an improper installation caused roof leaks and that handling the reported damage was substantially delayed. These are customer accounts, not independently verified findings. The selection does not represent all reviews and explicitly includes a system in Arizona, so it cannot be treated as feedback exclusively about San Francisco.
🚨 WARNING: Sunrun took complete advantage of my elderly father. Their improper installation of solar arrays caused severe roof leaks over our garage. When my senior father called multiple times to report it, Sunrun representatives intentionally gave him the runaround, blamed him for the damage, and shirked responsibility. They left the roof leaking through TWO FULL WINTERS.I had to step in to protect him. Sunrun’s own third-party team did a water test and watched the water pour into our garage. It has now been over two months since that test, and they are still stalling, claiming they "don't have the paperwork." Meanwhile, a local 5-star roofing company came out and gave us a full report in just 2 days.Because of Sunrun's 2-year delay and bad-faith victim-blaming, my elderly parents now have a massive 5x5-foot dry-rotted hole in their garage, rotted structural 2x4 beams, and active mold
Great experience with Sunrun! Their customer service team kept us informed at every step and handled all the paperwork seamlessly. The setup looks pristine and the communication was top-notch. I had an amazing experience working with Leaneth from Sunrun. She was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all of my questions about transitioning to solar energy. Leaneth made the whole process easy to understand, transparent, and completely stress-free. I highly recommend asking for them if you are considering Sunrun!
They had the best bargain and Derek Pifer was really awesome in the sales department. He was continually in contact with me as was Matt Harper the activation expert. I have had zero issues with my system and it has saved me a ton of money. I highly recommend Sunrun Solar for your solar needs. Derek was awesome! Very knowledgeable and patient. He deserves a raise
I am very satisfied with Sunrun’s products and service. I have had my solar system installed for more than seven years, and I have never experienced any problems. In my opinion, Sunrun is a trustworthy and reliable company. Some of my friends chose other solar companies, but after only three or four years, they either experienced equipment issues, found that their solar company had gone out of business, or couldn’t even reach anyone for support. Having a strong, established company like Sunrun gives me real peace of mind. I recommended Sunrun to one of my friends over six years ago, and they have been very happy with their system as well. We both have seen significant savings on our electricity bills over the years. I am truly grateful that I chose Sunrun, and I have no hesitation recommending them to anyone considering going solar.
We chose Sunrun to design and install a solar electric system for our home in AZ. They installed it in 2017 and it has generated over 140Mwh during the past nine years. This has resulted in average electric bills around $35 a month, which is great. But we have also had meter issues in four of the nine years during the summer months that have degraded system performance which has not been good. Overall, 4 stars for Sunrun. They are not perfect, but they are sure a lot better than other solar companies that have gone out of business or not maintained the equipment. Good job, Sunrun!
