Editorial context
Working with a provider in Boston – what matters
Anyone seeking energy advice in Boston should first clarify whether they need a comprehensive assessment of their building or help selecting individual systems. The supplied sources primarily document EnergySage as a digital quote-comparison platform with advisory support. They do not describe an on-site building assessment; anyone needing one should ask about its availability directly through the contact form.
When comparing solar quotes, the total price should not be the only consideration. Proposed equipment, expected electricity production, the consumption figures used, and financing terms should also be understandable. Boston customers should check which contractors serve their specific address and which services each quote includes. The platform’s stated screening process does not replace checking the selected contractor and its scope of work.
For home batteries, customers should establish which appliances or circuits can be powered during an outage and how the battery will work with an existing or planned solar system. For heat pumps and EV chargers, suitability for the building and any necessary electrical upgrades are important discussion points.
Before making a decision, it is advisable to document responsibilities for permitting, inspections, grid connection, and subsequent faults. The roles of the platform, installer, and utility should be distinguished. Incentives and financial assumptions should be checked against the specific location and intended installation date. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

UPDATE: I followed the below instructions from Energy Sage and have received no response from them at all. Worse than useless service. Just posting to appear helpful but not doing anything for their customers. Terrible experience going with a solar installer provided/vetted by EnergySage. Completely useless service that caused me to hire an installer (PlugPV /Palmetto Solar that failed numerous inspections and deadlines. Now the system produces nowhere near estimated power amounts.
EnergySage made getting multiple quotes so easy. The pricing is not asa difficult as it seems in the beginning of your search, and EnergySage allows you to easily compare multiple quotes side by side. The biggest things for me was the reviews of each individual company and their installers. Big investment to let just anyone install it. I will review my choice of solar companies and installation separately. Thanks to the developers of EnergySage. - Gary L.
Terrible service. Partnered with SolarLeasing who does not return calls and the system they sold us stopped working after 4months from when it was turned on. Nearly 5 mknths later and the system is not producing. Full electricity bill plus solar panel bill and a lein on a house. Great deal right?? No... Run...
EnergySage offers a variety of valuable services: 1. It provides a forum from which to solicit solar installation quotes from a group of vetted installers in your area. 2. It offers technical advice, both online and via telephone, on the multiple aspects of acquiring a solar installation. 3. It shields you from direct contact from the vendors, so you don’t get a deluge of emails and phone calls. You do have the option to deal with the vendors if you desire. 4. I quickly received four quotes and was able to compare them using the EnergySage site. 5. I was able to discuss the quotes with my assigned EnergySage advisor which helped me select the best offer. I now have scheduled installation by the solar contractor which offered the best equipment at a very satisfactory price.
Did some research, Gathered quotes, and selected a contractor. Signed a contract in June. Roof done, electrical upgrade done, Solar installed. End of November and still not connected to the grid or functional. Simply put, a disaster. Fighting to get connected. Finally connected to the grid January 1, after filing a complaint with RI PUC. Dealing with RI Energy Solar Dept was very difficult. It was if they did not want solar installations in RI. Our contractor was awesome, but RI Energy was simply awful to deal with.
